While I am certainly getting very tired of this wintery weather we have been having, I spent a lovely weekend enjoying all things outdoor this past weekend. Friday was spent enjoying some personal time on the slopes, complete with some sunshine and headphones to clear my head with some favorite songs. What better way to round out the evening than with leftovers, wine, and a Rangers hockey game.
Saturday we drove up to Saranac Lake for their winter carnival. The history of the carnival is actually pretty interesting- it began in 1897 for those in Saranac Lake seeking a cure for Tuberculosis, serving as a way to promote outdoor sports and activities in the long (bitterly cold) winters. Each year there is a different theme, and the festival wraps up with a parade. This year’s theme was Celtic. There is also a unique ice castle each year.. pretty incredible to see. It is such a fun town and so nice to see huge crowds come out to enjoy the carnival!
There were also some pretty stylish pets there! This one was my favorite.
The other thing that we determined during our quick stay in Saranac Lake was that we need to get a pet pig. My brother in law got the cutest little potbelly pig.. he is absolutely adorable!
We spent a bit more time in the car this weekend than I would usually like, but at least it was a beautiful drive spent in good company.
We made it back in time for one of our favorite little lady’s first birthday party!
Not to mention we have been cramming in as much Winter Olympics as possible in every spare moment! Go USA!!
